What is SBI Clerk?

SBI Clerk Entrance Exam has been conducted by SBI.A bank clerk is a financial service professional who serves as the primary point of contact for most bank customers and administrating basic banking transactions, necessary documentations if required and various administrative functions.

Candidates will be selected after giving impressive performance in the common competitive written exam which is divided into two parts, i.e. Objective type test & Descriptive type test, followed by the personal interview and group discussion. The last selection of candidates will be by total weight age of marks obtained in both of the tests.

SBI Clerk Selection Procedure 2017

Selection process includes three steps:

  • 1st Step: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) (100 Marks)
  • 2nd Step: Main Examination (Objective Type) (200 Marks)
  • 3rd Step: Interview

SBI Clerk Preliminary Exam Pattern 2017

  • Preliminary examination which will be conducted online consists of objective paper for 100 marks.
  • The exam duration would be 1 hour consists of 3 sections such as (1) English language, (2) Numerical ability and (3) Reasoning ability.
  • There is negative marking of 1/4th marks for each wrong answer.

SBI Clerk Main Exam Pattern 2017

  • Main examination which will be conducted online. The exam duration will be 2 hour, 40 minutes.
  • Main examination will consist of 190 objective-type questions for 200 marks. The questions will be divided into various sections such as General / Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude.
  • Main exam question paper will be set in both English & Hindi language.
  • There is negative marking of 1/4th marks for each wrong answer.

The min required age for this post is 20 years

Max age limit is 28 years (For general)

 SBI Clerk Educational Qualification:

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or equivalent
  • The candidate must have achieved 60% in 10+2 (For General)
  • Or Graduate with min 40% marks (35% for SC/ST/PWD)
  • The candidate must have achieved 55% in 10+2 (For SC/ST)
  • Or A Diploma course passed after 10th standard from recognized institutes, with two years of minimum study. It should be a full time course (not through correspondence) with a minimum of 60% marks.

Phases of Examination

Bank Clerk recruitment comprises of two stages of exams, via

Phase 1 Written test:  Written test followed by an interview. The written test is normally comprised of an objective type test.

Phase 2 Common Interviews: Candidates who clear the written test are called for interviews. Institute of Banking Personnel Selection now has the complete control over recruitment, placing professionals in all public sector banks in India. Interview will be conducted by them self and not by the participating banks. And prepare a final merit list will be used to recruit the candidates directly to the banking position.

Personal Interview is conducted to check the behavior, communication skills, and knowledge about banking and financial topics. The Technical questions may come from your previous job (if you are already working), and the projects that you have done, academics and about the bank also. So, prepare well on one subject from your academics, do a good research on the bank and also make rehearsal of mock interviews.

Scheme of Examination for SBI Clerk

The written test consists of Objective type Paper.

Objective type: Maximum Marks: 200

The test areas in the objective type test of Bank Clerk Exam include tests from Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning & logical reasoning, English language, Computer & Marketing Knowledge & General Awareness.  In Objective Paper the candidate have to be answered 250 Questions in 150 Minutes.

Phase 1 :Preliminary Examination for 100 marks shall be conducted in the month of May. It would contain 3 sections.

Candidates have to pass in each objective test that also carries 0.25 negative mark.

Phase 2: Main Exams would be conducted for candidates who qualify in prelims.It will be for 200 marks.

Phase III: Interview (subject to Govt of India approval) Those who get clear the main exams will be called for personal interview.Since govt of India had advised banks not to conduct interviews for clerical cadre jobs, it is not known whether SBI will continue with interview or not.

Cut-off and Negative Marking:

The candidates shall be required to qualify in each objective test as per the cut-off marks. Every wrong answers marked will be penalized in the objective type  tests which will result in negative marks for every wrong answer i.e., 1/4th or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted

Syllabus for SBI Clerk Entrance
The syllabus for the SBI Clerk Entrance Exam is based completely on the syllabus of class 10+2, from different boards like State, ISE and CBSE. The candidates must be well aware with the syllabus of class 10+1 and 10+2. Final Selection will be done on the basis of performance in the written test and interview.

English: The test of English language includes comprehension and grammar usage mainly.

Logical Reasoning: Logical reasoning section includes a test of calculative thinking and precision.

Numerical Ability: Numerical Ability test will judge a candidate’s mathematical grip and includes chapters that were present at 10 + 2 level.

Computer Knowledge: Computer Knowledge test will put forward questions with respect to basic operations such as Microsoft Office,

Marketing & General Awareness: This section will deal with a candidate’s general knowledge which shall compromise of knowledge in marketing, computers and other general affairs.

Final Selection 
The marks of Group Discussion and SBI Clerk Interview will be put together and the candidates who secure minimum 40% marks (minimum 35% in case of SC / ST / OBC / PWD) in group discussion and interview will be considered for final selection. The candidate has to pass both in Phase I & II separately.

Both Phases marks will be aggregated and arranged in descending order (category wise) for candidates who have qualified in both the phases separately and depending on the Latest PO Vacancies, selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.
